NEWLY-CROWNED Ugandan basketball champions Kyambogo Warriors have been drawn against five-time winners Primeiro Agosto of Angola in the Africa Championship.

Coach Gad Eteu has just led Warriors to their first national title and his confidence remains unshaken.

“Agosto have won five times in a row, I can’t pass judgement now but we are going to do our best. The team is getting mentally stronger as we continue training,” Eteu said.

Eteu whose squad leaves for Kigali, Rwanda today for the continental championship, reckons his boys can put up a formidable contest.

Agosto has five players in the Angolan national team that featured in the Olympics and World Championship.

Warriors lost to Cooperative Bank in the final of the Africa Zone Five championship in Kampala in July.

The tournament starts this weekend and the top two teams from each group advance.

Group A
Agosto Primeiro (Angola), Warrior (UG), Kenya Cooperative Bank, Aspac (Benin)

Group B
APR (Rwanda), Petro Atletico (Angola), Kano Pillar (Nigeria), Kenya Ports Authority, ASB Mazembe (DR. Congo)
