“STOP kidding! It cannot be true!” was all Joy Mariam Mgoba could say when the news of her success was broken to her. Mgoba, 12, scored aggregate 5 and emerged among the best at Victorious Primary School, Namirembe Road.

She couldn’t hide her excitement at her residence at Nansana East II zone in Wakiso district, where she was baby sitting her aunt’s daughter. “Allah is great! I attribute my success to him, my parents and my mathematics teacher John Ofwono,” she said with tears falling down her face.

Her mother, Sauda Namyalo, a Mengo minister and lecturer at the Institute of Langauges Makerere University is in Tanzania. Her father, Dr. Mgoba, who works at Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi said hardwork and strictness enabled his daughter to excel.
