INTERNALLY displaced persons from Lumwora village in Padibe west sub-county, Kitgum district on Monday attacked Katepo settlement camp in Paloga sub-county to protest the death of their colleague, writes Chris Ocowun.

Armed with pangas, axes, bows and arrows, they looted 200 goats, ducks and chicken.

The district criminal investigation officer, John Afrique Odwogo, on Tuesday said the IDPs suspected that Richard Onguti of Katepo village killed Nelson Okello.

Okello had disappeared and was later found dead in Katepo.
Odwogo said Okello’s body was found last Sunday, and added that initial investigations indicated that Okello was first murdered before his body was burnt.

It is alleged that Okello and Onguti were fighting over a woman. Onguti has been arrested in connection with the murder. Odwogo said 10 people were arrested and would be charged with aggravated robbery.

“With blessings from elders, they destroyed utensils and assaulted a woman. About 200 goats, ducks, chicken, mattresses and a bicycle went missing,” Odwogo explained.
He advised people of Paloga sub-county not to revenge.

“We do not want this violence to continue. Local leaders are working hard to recover the missing items,” Odwogo added.
