ALL is set for the launch of the Uganda Youth Soccer Academy (UYSA) on February 27.

Diplomats, ministers, Members of Parliament and the football fraternity in Uganda will be part of the 200 guests at the function at the Kampala Latino Club starting at 7pm.

“We want to give this one a local feel as much as possible, but we shall have another launch on April 24 in London,” UYSA director Ivan Kakembo stated on Sunday.

The dinner launch, to be sponsored by Brussels Airlines, will also be attended by Steve White, chairman of Leicester Sports Alliance. White met President Yoweri Museveni in London last year and promised assistance to Ugandan athletes.

According to Kakembo, Alison Forman a former Australian woman soccer international and Tanja Mejer who plays for the Danish women national team have offered their strips (jerseys) to be auctioned at the launch.

The UYSA U-14 team will the following day February 28, play an exhibition match against the City Tyres U-14 champions.

In a related development, the UYSA U-14 team has been invited to take part in the Dana Cup due July 20-25 in Denmark. The six-day tournament is expected to attract 850 boys’ and girls’ teams from 45 countries.

UYSA will also participate in the Vildbjerg Cup due July 29-August 2 also in Denmark.
