Hakodate Africa Support Association (HASA), a Japanese NGO, has offered to pay school fees for three girls for a year.
Maureen Kwagala, 6, Juliet Nabagala, 7 and Amina Bukirwa, 7, who have been under the care of Focus-Uganda, a local NGO, are the beneficiaries.
According to Shunzo Masada, the chief executive officer of HASA, the association chose the girls as part of their mission to better the livelihood of the African girl child.
Visiting the homes of the girls on Monday, Masada said the association wanted to establish a relationship with children support organisations in the sub-Saharan Africa.
“The education of children means a better nation. That is why we want to help educate the African child,†he said.
Masada said the association was initially focusing on the slums of Nsooba and Kalerwe in Kampala.
