UGANDA Golf Union (UGU) has landed a sh29m (10,000 pounds) coaching grant from amateur golf world governing body, Royal and Ancient (R&A).

“I am pleased to report that the committee has approved a grant of 5000 pounds to Uganda for each of the 2009 and 2010 calendars. This money should help to pay for a structured programme to help with both your junior and national team preparations for the All Africa Junior and Zone VI tournament,” a letter from R&A read.

In addition to the sh29m grant a PGA professional will be sent to Uganda.

“Be assured the person will be well qualified to help with your squads and also to work with your own professionals who we aim to impart more useful knowledge for them to continue training your teams in future,” it added.

UGU president Eric Adriko who applied for the grant, said: “This is one of the ways through which we shall achieve the 2010 vision of Uganda producing a PGA champion.”
