MPs on the state enterprises committee have asked Police chief Kale Kayihura to appear and answer issues raised about the Special Revenue Protection Unit (SRPS) that he headed. The chairman, Reagan Okumu, yesterday said the Police chief is expected to appear next Tuesday to explain the annual sh2.5b received by the department for its operations in 2000 and 2001. SRPS was a unit of the army attached to the URA. Appearing before the committee on Monday to answer queries raised in the Auditor General’s report, a Uganda Revenue Authority official, Michael Otonga, said the money was released on instructions of a high-ranking officer. According to the report, Kayihura was one of the signatories.
