TEDDY Sseezi Cheeye, who was jailed for embezzling sh120m from Global Fund, has filed an application, seeking to be released on bail pending the hearing and determination of his appeal.

Cheeye, the former director of economic affairs in the Internal Security Organisation (ISO), yesterday said he would abide by the bail conditions.

He said he suffers from diabetes and high blood pressure, adding that the diseases cannot be adequately treated in prison.

According to an affidavit in support of his application, Cheeye said he is the sole provider for his large family and dependants, adding that his family was adversely affected by his imprisonment.

He said he is a person of good conduct and had never been convicted of any offence.

Cheeye further contends his home is within the jurisdiction of the court and if released on bail he would not abscond, adding that he honoured the bail, he was granted during his trial.

He was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for embezzlement and three years for each count of forgery, but all the sentences were to run concurrently.
