Adults rejoin primary school
GULU-Hundreds of illiterate adults have gone back to school under the Catch-up Education Programme introduced by Echo-Bravo, an NGO. The area regional programme manager, Joseph Asutai, said under the system, the students sit for primary leaving examinations after studying for three years. Under the Ugandan education system, pupils sit for the final primary exams after seven years. Asutai made the remarks during the recent open day at Pakwelo Primary School in Unyama.

Councillors get 1,500 seeds
LIRA-The National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS) recently gave 1,500 improved orange seedlings worth sh6m to Lira sub-county leaders as a strategy to promote modern methods of farming in the area. The 13 councillors and their chairperson, James Achella, will benefit from the first batch of the seedlings while plans are underway to donate seedlings to the sub-county chief and other civil servants.The seeds are capable of yielding four 50kg bags of oranges per acre.

Mvara SS to hold reunion
ARUA-Mvara Secondary School will have a reunion on June 6. The event organised by the old students association will be held at the Church of Uganda-founded school. The 47-year-old mixed government-aided school is among the oldest schools in the district. Sam Ejibua, the association’s central region chairperson, recently told members in Kampala that the event was the first of its kind for the school.

One dead as truck crashes
ARUA_A teenager died on the spot while seven others were injured when a truck plunged into River Enyau at around 7:30pm on Friday. The truck, loaded with firewood used in tobacco curing, was heading to Katrini from Lokiragodo forest. The district Police commander, Julius Salube, said the injured were taken to Arua Hospital. Three of them have been discharged.
