YOUR end of term performance might not have met your expectations and you may be wondering how best to utilise your holiday to improve your performance.

Here are some tips:
  • Plan your reading time well. Whereas parents would love to see their children revising during holidays, many detest those who do not help with housework. Discuss with your parent or guardian how you will balance housework and study.

  • Plan your reading in the available time to avoid clashing with your parents. You also need to explain to your parents how important study time is to ensure that you are not interrupted. However, if such a time cannot be given to you, create it.

  • Check your notebooks to ensure that you have all the notes.

  • Go through the exams you did during the term; beginning of-term, mid-term and end-of-term exams. Try to do the corrections in a book or file. This may make it easy when you are doing consultations with your teacher the following term. It is easier to consult after trial because you know exactly where you need help.

  • Revision is easier when you have questions on the different topics covered. Some students already have the UNEB past paper questions. These help you know which questions could be asked on different topics.

  • You can consult your parents or older sibling in case of a challenging concept.

  • As you read, summarise your work. There are different ways of summarising.
Some get separate books for summary, others summarise in the margins in their very note books, while others simply underline the main points.
Find out which method is more appealing to you and this should continue even when you are at school.

  • If you have classmates in the neighbourhood, look at their work and compare notes, discuss different questions, and other relevant academic information.
