JUSTIN “The Destroyer” Juuko’s Sunday night fight nearly flopped after his Kenyan opponent Peter Oluoch demanded his competition fees be paid before he jumped into the ring.

It called for the intervention of Kyaddondo South MP Issa Kikungwe to save the drama at Little Flowers in Kampala. The legislator stepped in with a sh600,000 guarantee to the Uganda Professinal Boxing Commission for Oluoch.

The main event was delayed by 25 minutes until the Kenyan was assured of his earnings from the fight.

When the bout finally started, Oluoch rocked Juuko throughout and had the Ugandan stagger to the canvas in the first and fourth rounds with good crosses, upper-cuts and vicious jabs.

Juuko replied in the latter rounds with stinging jabs and hooks in a bruising fight he won with a unanimous points decision.

“He was a tough guy and I like them tough; I felt really rusty and I wanted to have an eight-round fight instead. But now I have the energy to get back and go for a ten-round fight,” a bruised Juuko said.

“I hope to have four more fights and I am happy with this win.”

The 36-year-old improved to 44 wins (including 29 kos), 10 losses and 1 draw. It was the Kenyan’s second defeat in Kampala after he lost to Sam Rukundo four months ago.

Former African featherweight champion Mike Kizza, battled to a unanimous points decision over Robert Semboze.
Excel Insurance sponsored the fight which was the first of a series for Juuko leading to his retirement next year.
