THE practice of leaving car keys with the car washer may be approved in town, but it has its pitfalls, the Police warns. Following the recent alleged theft of the Usuk MP’s vehicle from a washing bay, which, in a dramatic twist, turned out not to be so, the Police issued an alert: Do not leave your vehicle keys with car washers.

And they could be right in doing this, given that their statistics indicate that a bulk of cases reported to the Police stations in the city, are about vehicles theft.

“It is some of these practices that abet thefts. People should never surrender their keys to these car washers,” Kampala Police spokesman Simeo Nsubuga warned.

He asked vehicle owners to patiently wait at the bays as their cars are attended to. Nsubuga warned that leaving keys behind gives a chance to the car washers to make copies, which they later use to steal the vehicles.
