EDITOR—In response to the letter from Eva Kabiira “MultiChoice should warn customers about price,” dated September 14, 2007, MultiChoice Uganda would like to take this opportunity to offer clarification to our existing and prospective DStv subscribers about our promotional hardware price.

Our current promotional price for a fully-installed DStv kit is sh279,000 not sh129,000, as Ms Kabiira stated. It is also important to note that although this promotional price is subject to certain terms and conditions and is valid for a period of time and/or availability of stock, it is not subject to any exchange rate differences.

We would also like to correct the misperception that may be created by Ms Kabiira’s letter on the issue of MultiChoice reserves the right to add or remove channels from the DStv bouquets. There are a several reasons why this is so; key of which are; the channels under the various DStv packages do not belong to MultiChoice and as such, the owners may, for whatever reason, want their channel removed from the DStv bouquets. Additionally, channels on the various DStv packages are constantly evaluated for popularity and commercial viability.

For example, if a channel is found not to be popular, we often replace it with a better performing channel.
With regard to CSI initiatives, we are quite surprised that Ms Kabiira is not aware of the contribution that MultiChoice has been making in Uganda over the past years.

Among other initiatives, we have been working with the Discovery Global Education Fund to provide educational content to over 25 disadvantaged schools based in rural areas across the country.

Today, this project has evolved into a new initiative of setting up MultiChoice Resource Centres in schools.

We work closely with the Ministry of Education under the National Planning Authority to provide free relevant educational content from the DStv bouquet to universal primary and secondary beneficiary schools and learning institutions. Training and support of teachers to utilise the resource efficiently and effectively is one of the fundamental elements of the initiative.
