DENNIS Kyeyune’s long range strike in the last minute won Express the Independence Cup at Nakivubo yesterday. The Red Eagles striker fired in a low ball from 20 metres past KCC custodian Tony Okello to clinch a badly needed morale-boosting win ahead of the 2007-8 Super League.

New Express coach Polly Ouma was not only happy with the win, but also the way his troops structured it.

The Wankulukuku side stuck to Ouma’s game plan of a passing game.
“I don’t believe in the kick-and-run approach. I am an advocate of the short passing game. That’s what the boys displayed,” noted Ouma.

Express custodian Abbey Dhaira sparkled like veterans Morley Byekwaso and Phillip Ssozi whose 40 metre shot would have given Express the lead but Okello was alert in goal.

KCC’s new coach Moses Basena must also be equally evaluating the loss.
Just like Ouma, it was Basena’s first outing as technical boss of the Lugogo-based side.
