Shimoni school demolition!

EDITOR—Much has been said about the demolition of Shimoni schools. While some people say the schools were in a wrong location in the city centre and might have a point, I take exception to the manner in which it was done.

EDITOR—Much has been said about the demolition of Shimoni schools. While some people say the schools were in a wrong location in the city centre and might have a point, I take exception to the manner in which it was done.

The schools were demolished in an indecent hurry and the pupils and students scattered in different places without regard to their feelings. Now, the place where there was supposed to be a five-star hotel in the heart of kampala, is overgrown and has become a haven for thugs!

That kind of behaviour, considered in tandem with what has happened to many other pieces of prime land in Kampala and the struggle to give away Mabira Forest for sugarcane growing, raises many eyebrows! What is happening and who is behind all this? I wish some people could be prosecuted!

EDITOR—I am reacting to a letter by Mr Amon Mbekiza where he laments the ‘desecration’ of Shimoni TTC and Shimoni Demonstration School. I think a primary school like the former Shimoni needs a better location than where it has been.

I would be happier if pressure was exerted on the government to find an alternative site, suitable for a primary school than wasting time agitating for its re-construction in the former location.
