PROPOSALS are needed for a study that will investigate the possibility of extending a railway line to Sudan and DR Congo, writes Mikaili Sseppuya.

The extension studies are part of a feasibility study to upgrade the Tororo-Packwach railway.

According to the European procurement website EVD, the study would be financed by the World Bank through the East African Trade and Transportation Facility Project.

The 500km line is largely dormant and runs from Tororo in south-eastern Uganda to Packwach in the north-west.

“A technical and economic feasibility study is required to form the basis for a decision to finance upgrading of the railway. The envisaged works include re-railing with larger rails, re-sleeping, stone ballasting, earthwork improvements including re-grading, bridge and culvert refurbishment or strengthening,” the website said.
