Compile list of influential Ugandans

EDITOR—I request the new vision to begin publishing the list of influential people in Uganda. It would be wonderful for every paper to solicit and compile a list of these people at least twice or thrice a year, maybe even on a regional basis.

EDITOR—I request the new vision to begin publishing the list of influential people in Uganda. It would be wonderful for every paper to solicit and compile a list of these people at least twice or thrice a year, maybe even on a regional basis.

There are many people who may not qualify at the national level but are doing admirable things in their regions or districts. By doing this, we shall be acknowledging the contributions of many people who are making a difference in society.

This might inspire our young generations to do good. Having said this, I feel very strongly that there is one individual who needs special recognition in Uganda, for having had a lasting impact on many people. The Most Rev. Dr. Livingstone Mpalanyi Nkoyoyo.

His gift for leadership and reconciliation kept the Church of Uganda united during a time when division was beginning to look inevitable.

He is also the person whose vision has resulted in the founding of the Uganda Christian University, Mukono. Nkoyoyo took a small seminary with a student population of less than 100 and turned it into one of Uganda’s leading academic institutions! Recently, he published an autobiography entitled, Leadership Under Pressure?

(ACRELI, 2004). It is an inspiring book that describes his humble beginnings as a mechanic, and his call to the priesthood, which eventually saw him elevated to Bishop of Mukono and then Archbishop of Uganda. I would like to encourage everyone to
read it.
