A TOTAL of $116,400 (sh202.5m) is to be saved through changing the provider of an integrated Local Area Network (LAN) during the Commonwealth meeting (CHOGM).

This follows the procurement authority’s (PPDA) decision to uphold a change in the procurement of the LAN.

Initially, M/s LANTech was ranked the best bidder among seven firms with $449,587 (sh869.2m).

The seven firms were Data Fundi, Com Tel Integrators Africa, Southern Business Solutions, Dimension Data, LANTech, Service and Computer Industries and Technology Associates.

Only two firms, Dimension Data and LANTech passed the preliminary and technical evaluation.

However, the ICT ministry’s contracts committee rejected the evaluation report, which awarded the contract to LANTech.

A second evaluation committee recommended that Technology Associates was the best bidder with $383,186.90 (sh666.7m).

LANTech complained to the ICT ministry since they had met all the requirements, while Technology Associates had not. The complaint was addressed to PPDA.
