The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party has opposed the writing off of the sh1.2 trillion debts that individuals and private companies owe the Government. The party’s deputy national publicity secretary, Toterebuka Bamwenda, recently told journalists that the Government should sue the defaulters in order to recover the money. “We call for a comprehensive development plan against misallocation of resources. Writing off the debts is questionable.” The Auditor General recently asked MPs to write off sh1 trillion owed to the Government, saying the debts were irrecoverable.

Indian trucks expected

Buses and garbage trucks donated by the Indian government for CHOGM preparations arrive in the country next week. The foreign affairs permanent secretary, Ambassador James Mugume, on Wednesday said the vehicles should have arrived earlier but were delayed by procurement procedures in India. In September, India’s ministry of external affairs offered six buses, fire-fighting equipment and garbage trucks to Uganda for the summit. “Two buses and 10 garbage trucks will be arriving not later that November 10. The rest will not come in time,” said Mugume. He added that the vehicles will be given to Kampala City Council thereafter.
