PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has contributed $5,000 (about sh8.5m) towards the treatment of Aisha Nabukeera in the US.

The 14-year-old girl, who was allegedly burnt by her stepmother, needs sh67m to cater for her upkeep and travel expenses.

The US-based Shriners Children’s Hospital offered to carry out a skin-grafting operation on Nabukeera for free.

According to Richard Bakojja, the senior presidential adviser on political and manifesto affairs, the President pledged to support Nabukeera because he was touched by her plight.

“When the President saw Nabukeera’s photograph in the newspapers, he was touched and like any other parent, he has fulfiled his pledge.”

Nabukeera’s mother, Sophie Nakandi, thanked the President for his support.

Handing over the cash to Nabukeera at Okello House in Kampala last week, Bakojja thanked other sympathisers for contributing towards Nabukeera’s treatment.

Museveni’s contribution brings the total to sh30.5m, leaving a balance of sh36.5m.

Nabukeera’s guardian, Frank Gashumba, urged people to fulfill their pledges.
