DISTRICT councilors have endorsed the use of DDT in the fight against malaria.
The LC5 chairperson, Nicholas Opio-Bunga, at a recent council meeting at Scout Hall said: “We welcome the use of DDT in killing mosquitoes in households.â€
Bunga urged councilors to resist whoever is against the use of DDT in combating malaria.
“DDT issues have been discussed at both international and national levels, and it was decided that it has no harm.â€
The LC5 boss said World Health Organisation and several technical officers have approved the indoor spraying of the insecticide. The councillors also endorsed the use of DDT, but blamed the health ministry for delaying to implement the programme.
Apac is the district worst hit by malaria in Uganda. There are about
1,500 mosquito bites per person in a week, according to health ministry report.
