BLOOD samples from hundreds of people in Kampala have tested negative for the deadly Ebola haemorrhagic fever, the Ministry of Health has revealed.

The Commissioner for Health Services, Dr. Sam Okware, said the ministry picked the samples following phone calls from people reporting suspicious cases.

Dr. Okware said several other samples from different parts of the country had also tested negative.

“It is only in five sub-counties in Bundibugyo district where Ebola has been found and the epidemic is reducing.”

The ministry said three more Ebola patients had been admitted in hospital in Bundibugyo, bringing the number of infections to 119 by Thursday.

However, no deaths were reported.
Dr. Okware said as the Ebola epidemic recedes, another ‘epidemic’ of panic is raising. People are victimising those coming from districts suspected to have Ebola.

The ministry appealed to the public to avoid unnecessary movements and gatherings, especially in districts of Kabarole, Kasese, Hoima, Kibaale, Kyenjojo, Kamwenge, Ibanda, Bushenyi and Mbarara districts.
