THE Kampala Kids League U-12 team will be flagged off today as they start a month-long tour of Europe, reports Andrew Kabuura.

A squad of 12 players is set to participate in five tournaments in Sweden and Denmark, including the Gothia Cup and the Aarhus Football Festival in the 7-aside competitions.

The team’s leading supporters are Stanbic Bank that handed KKL a sponsorship of close to sh43m earlier this month.

“We believe this is the future of Ugandan football and this bank is all about development,” explained Phillip Odera, the managing director.

Team captain, Khalfami Khemis, believes the team has the potential and chances for silverware.

“I think we are good enough. We shall win the trophy if we play according to instructions,” said the 11-year old pupil of Arua’s Citizens PS.

Meanwhile, Uganda’s other representatives, Edgars Youth Programme, has been pooled in groups 15 and 12 in the boys U-15 and U-11 respectively in the Gothia Cup which kicks-off July 13.

The U-15 will challenge teams from host nation Sweden and Norway while the U-11 boys are pooled only against fellow Swedish youngsters.

The U-15 boys will open their quest for glory against Norwegian side SK Vard Haugesund 1, while the U-11 stars start against AIK FF 2
