Jinja to get sh17b rural hospital

The health ministry has earmarked sh17b for the construction of Buwenge General Rural Hospital in Jinja district, the acting district health officer, Dr. Sarah Byakika, has said.

The health ministry has earmarked sh17b for the construction of Buwenge General Rural Hospital in Jinja district, the acting district health officer, Dr. Sarah Byakika, has said.
“We are going to construct the hospital in phases on 15 acres of land. “We have so far received sh1.7b to start the construction of the out-patients ward,†she said.
Byakika made the remarks on Thursday at the ground breaking at Magamaga parish in Kagoma sub-county. “Engineers from the ministry are going to provide the design for the buildings and the hospital is expected to be completed in about three years.
“It will comprise wards, an administration and laundry, a theatre, staff quarters, a private wing and a pharmacy,†she said. Byakika said the Magamaga Health Centre III would be broken down to create space for the construction of houses for the hospital staff.
She said district officials had earlier frustrated the project that Chinese investors had wanted to build after they failed to agree on a site. The resident district commissioner, Christopher Bagonza, advised politicians with personal interests to stop sabotaging community projects.
“We missed out on that golden chance,†Bagonza said in reference to the offer from the Chinese. However, the Kagoma sub-county chief, Alamanza Kakaire, said the district authorities had only asked for five acres of land.
“We are going to call for a council meeting to see whether we can allocate them more land whose title should be secured in the name of the sub-county, †Kakaire said.
He asked for sh3m in compensation before the project could start. Stephen Bogere, the contractor, said the pace of the project will depend on how the Government releases funds.
