LOCAL government minister Adolf Mwesige has said the Kisekka market lease should be offered to Nakivubo Road Old Kampala (Kisekka) Market Vendors Ltd.

LOCAL government minister Adolf Mwesige has said the Kisekka market lease should be offered to Nakivubo Road Old Kampala (Kisekka) Market Vendors Ltd, reports Florence Nakaayi.

In a letter of June 29, Mwesige stated that investigations had revealed that there were four interested vendors’ companies, but Nakivubo Road Old Kampala Market Vendors were the genuine vendors who could re-develop the market.

“Having verified their legal status, we are convinced that this is the only bonafide and viable company which we can work with to re-develop the market,” Mwesige stated in his communication to the Attorney General.

“Since they have expressed interest to develop the market, our view is that Kampala City Council should go ahead and give them a sub-lease offer.”

The letter was copied to President Yoweri Museveni and Kampala mayor Nasser Sebaggala among others.

Mwesige’s letter followed Museveni’s directive to have an earlier lease offer to Rhino Investment Ltd cancelled and the company compensated.

Recent media reports said the Government would pay about sh40b to Col. John Mugyenyi, the proprietor of Rhino.
