Gulu district councillors have been accused of failing to implement ideas they get from workshops. Speaking at the sensitisation workshop for councillors on malaria at the district council hall recently, the district health educator, Okot Lokach, said most councillors attend workshops to receive allowances.
“It is unfortunate that you don’t take back to your people the ideas you get from workshops because you do not take these workshops seriously,†he said.
“Some people use mosquito nets for trapping white ants or preparing kwete (local brew) and not to fight mosquitoes,†Lokach added.
The World Health Organisation chief in Gulu, Dr. Vincent Yooman, said 35% of the out-patients and 13% of admissions are cases of malaria.
District speaker Martin Ojara Mapenduzi said policy-makers needed to be proactive when designing programmes
