Kabale scouts commended
KABALE-Scouts have been praised for instilling discipline, hard work and determination in young people. Tourism state minister Serapio Rukundo said for young people to succeed in life, they must be disciplined, hardworking and of good morals. The minister was on Monday closing a three-day scouts camp at Makanga. Scouts from eight secondary schools in the district attended the camp. He encouraged the scouts to use the knowledge gained from the camp to deal with problems in their communities. Handing over certificates to the best performers, Rukundo pledged to facilitate the best teams at the National Scouts Jamboree next month at Kaazi in Wakiso district. The district executive commissioner of scouts, Dickson Aguma, criticised the schools that did not participate, saying they were doing a disservice to the students.

Murderer gets 12 years in jail
KABAROLE-The magistrates’ court last Friday sentenced a man to 12 years in prison for murder. The court, presided over by Chief Magistrate Boniface Wamala, heard that Edison Rugumayo, a resident of Kichwamba village in Kihura sub-county, killed Steven Batunga of Kijumba village on December 25, 2008, using a spear. Prosecution said an argument started when Rugumayo asked Batunga to buy him a drink. When Batunga refused, Rugumayo went to his house, got a spear and used it to stab Batunga in the stomach. Rugumayo pleaded guilty to the charges.

‘Invest in your kids’ future’
KABALE-Parents have been urged to invest in the education of their children. Tourism state minister Serapio Rukundo also advised parents to be role models to their children, saying it would enable them (children) complete school. Rukundo was recently speaking at a thanksgiving function for Rushaki Primary School at Rushaki Catholic Church. He said parents should know their children’s friends to avoid bad influence from peers. Rukundo added that children were involved in drug abuse, alcoholism and premarital sex because of peer pressure. Over sh6m was raised at the function to renovate two classroom blocks. The head teacher, Alex Akampurira, said the project that included installing windows and metallic doors, would cost over sh9m.
