THE late Geoffrey Sabiti Kabushenga was laid to rest at his ancestral home in Nyakabungo village in Kinkizi county, Kanungu district on Thursday.

Kabushenga, 67, died on August 18 from a heart attack due to hypertension and diabetes. He is survived by three sons Richard Mugisha, Robert Tabaro Kabushenga, the chief executive officer of The New Vision Group and Daniel Kyobe, an adopted son.

In their tributes, the mourners described the late Kabushenga as a selfless family man and a trustworthy person. Can. Justine Faith Kabushenga hailed her son as a hero and god-fearing child while Hilder Kabushenga, the sister to late Kabushenga, hailed him as a protector.

Kabushenga was forced into exile in Kenya during the Amin regime. He worked there as an English teacher for three years. Later, Kabushenga served as a senior diplomat and served in Russia, Denmark, Sudan and Ethiopia and retired from public service to concentrate on his writings in 2000.

Robert Kabushenga, a son to the late Kabushenga, thanked mourners and family friends for their support from the day their father died.

Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi, a family friend, hailed Can. Justine for bringing up the late Kabushenga to become a man who has been admired by every Ugandan.

Muhwezi amused mourners when he said Can. Justine gave him some money when he had problems.
