FARMERS in Amuru district have been advised to plant quick maturing crops like beans, maize and cassava during the current rainy season.

Amuru resident district commissioner (RDC) Edwin Yakobo Komakech gave the advice while meeting farmers in Alero sub-county on Thursday.

Komakech appealed to the farmers to adhere to modern agricultural practices given by the National Agricultural Advisory Services to realise high crop yields.

He encouraged the farmers to form groups to market their crops, saying it would increase their bargaining power which will fetch higher prices.

Komakech warned the farmers against wasteful selling of their food and mismanagement of their money, saying it would reduce the food supply in the community.

The farmers requested the RDC to lobby organisations and NGOS to provide them with cheap agricultural inputs like improved seeds and storage facilities as they wait for buyers.
