BRITISH Airways is to start daily flights in and out of Entebbe in two years. This is aimed at tapping into the growing tourists numbers and business prospects, senior managers have said.

Ashley Cowen, the British Airways (BA) general manager for Asia, Pacific and Africa, said they were interested African markets because they were growing in contrast to other depressed markets.

“Africa is one of the regions proving to be resilient to the economic crisis. Uganda is a classic example of small elements of business traffic growing that is stimulated by inward and outward investment, particularly the discovery of oil,” said Cowen while briefing media representatives from Kenya and Uganda at the BA head office in London.

“We have seen some growth in Uganda’s tourism sector albeit from a small base.”
