EDITOR—On Wednesday, it was good news to read that women in Kyenjojo have vowed to strengthen communication with their spouses in order to fight the HIV/ AIDS scourge in their families. I can boldly say that women are gifted by nature with the ability to lure men so their efforts may yield fruits.
This will supplement the Government initiatives against the epidemic. Communication between married couples is an urgent cause in fighting HIV at a time when statistics indicate the disease has increased among married couples. This strategy does not call for much funding as is the case with others like condom use.
The only challenge is that men are rather hesitant when it comes to testing for HIV and it may be difficult for the women in their crusade. Even when there is massive free HIV testing and counselling sessions, men tend to shun them leaving a gap in communication especially after they have established their sero status. I only urge the Government to support these women in any way possible to achieve their objective.
This approach should be encouraged in other districts throughout the country. It is much better than other strategies where billions of shillings are spent only to end in the pockets of a few individuals.

However, this does not mean that other strategies like the ABC approach and PIASCY to learners should be abandoned. With concerted effort, AIDS/HIV can be brought under control in Uganda.
