THE G4S Pirates have withdrawn from the inaugural Super Cup final that was due this weekend at Entebbe mongers rugby ground.

Johnson Were
reports that the Pirates, who were runners-up in the league, were meant to play champions MTN Heathens in the Super Cup final.

The Super Cup is contested between the league and cup champions, but since Heathens won both, league runners-up Pirates qualified to take them on.

Muhammad Issa, the director of rugby at Pirates cited injuries and busy exam schedules that have committed most of his players.

“We would not be able to field a strong side because most of our players are students and committed to their exams now, while others are injured,” Muhammad explained.

Muhammad, however, added that for the good of the sport Heathens will play a select side dubbed the Barbarians from all the other Super 8 clubs. The team will be selected from uganda telecom Kobs, Buffaloes, Rhinos, Pirates and Entebbe Mongers.

The winner will take a cash prize of sh1m courtesy of sponsors Ultimate Sports Company and Entebbe Mongers Patron Society.
