Dear Total Man
I am nearly 20 but I have no hair in my armpits. I also have no beards yet others get them at 16. I think I have a problem with my hairy hormones. What can I do?
Denis

Dear Denis,
The beard and growth of hair in the armpits are a secondary sexual characteristic. They start growing during puberty, when the testes start producing the sex hormones.

The point when this starts differs a lot depending on genes, race and person. For some people it is earlier than it is for others.
The hair develops at a different rate for different people.

The sex hormones are associated with some other things. These include pubic hair, increasing size of the penis, breaking or changing voice, bulky muscles, production of sperms, ability to erect and to ejaculate and sexual desire.

Are these happening with you?

If they are happening, then you may have to just wait a bit longer. The hair will come. If they are not, then it is probably better for you to see a doctor about this.
Do see a doctor for more reassurance if there is any doubt.
