LEADERS must plan for water storage if they are to check its scarcity in the dry season, the Katakwi chief administrative officer has advised, reports Charles Kakamwa.

Nicholas Ocakara noted that much as the Teso region was flooded late last year, its farmers were already suffering from scarcity of water.

“Katakwi, which was flooded in September, is now so dry and our farmers are suffering. There is need for appropriate technology to store such water.”

Ocakara was discussing a plan to create a water supply scheme for Nakapiripirit, Moroto and Katakwi districts at Mt. Elgon Hotel in Mbale.
The plan was prepared by Dr. Ahmed Abdel-Warith, an Egyptian consultant.

The meeting was attended by resident district commissioners, LC5 chairmen, chief administrative officers and water officers from the three districts.
