When can I know the sex of the baby?

Feb 03, 2008

AN ultrasound scan done at around 20 weeks (five months) of pregnancy or later can determine the sex of the baby. The scan is not a foolproof way of determining the sex.

Dear Doctor,

At what month in pregnancy can I go to the scan to tell me the sex of the baby I am carrying?
Joanna

Dear Joanna,
AN ultrasound scan done at around 20 weeks (five months) of pregnancy or later can determine the sex of the baby. The scan is not a foolproof way of determining the sex.

Because sex determination is not routinely done, you will have to ask the ultrasound scanner specifically about it.
