THREE people were killed by a mob on Tuesday in Nabweyo village, Kibbaale sub-county in Namutumba district.

The three, who included two women and a traditional medicine man, were suspected to have beheaded a resident in a ritual sacrifice.

Patricia Ntalo, 38 and her sister-in-law Edinansi Mbeiza, 60, were beaten to death, while Musimami Ntalo was cut up by the mob.

The south-eastern Police commander, Christopher Kubai, said the trio were accused of abducting and beheading a man only identified as Batuli.

Kubai said Batuli went missing on Monday.

When the residents searched for him, his remains were recovered in a swamp near Ntalo’s home.

Batuli’s head was found under Ntalo’s bed.

“The locals slaughtered Ntalo, claiming he had killed many innocent people,” Kubai said.

Batuli and Ntalo’s bodies were taken to Iganga Hospital for a postmortem and later delivered to their respective homes.

The Police was deployed at Ntalo’s home during the burial to prevent further violence from the angry residents.

Kubai decried mob justice, saying the vice had increased in the region, but added that the Police was sensitising the residents against human rights violations.

No arrests have been made but Kubai promised that the Police was investigating the matter.
