All Ugandans should emulate Wavamunno

EDITOR — Since childhood, I have heard of prominent names in this country, most of them associated with politics. Sadly, these political big wigs never lasted as they were either dented by unbelievable scandals or simply lost form.

I have also heard other names which are not directly associated with politics, and these have had a more lasting mark. They have kept and still continue to keep their promises, making a tangible impact on development.

With regard to this, I have strong admiration for Gordon Wavamunno, someone who has slowly but surely made a positive impact in Uganda.

Initially, many of us knew him as the first post-independence citizen to introduce the Mercedes Benz into Uganda. Then he creatively changed the face of Ugandan television by introducing Wavah Broadcasting Services, a station that appeals to the tastes of both young and old. He also started a publishing company and recently started a water bottling company. All these investments have been punctuated with a touch of class, innovation, public interest and positive attitude — the kind of virtues lacking in politics.

My prayer is that all Ugandans emulate the works of Wavamunno, who has reportedly risen from a very humble background, yet his contribution is credible. As a staunch Catholic, I believe that God puts such people in our midst to teach us a lesson. I am sure if 100 more Ugandans borrowed a leaf from Wavamunno in terms of character, good will and a heart for this nation, Uganda would long be on the journey to a second or first world position. Or better yet, if all the politicians enriched their ambitions with the above qualities, the old adage, ‘politics is a dirty game’, would be history.

Bravo Mr. Gordon Wavamunno for your contribution to this nation and may God richly bless the works of your hands.
