POLITICAL leaders and technocrats from Amuria district on Monday visited Kiruhura district, as part of their one-week tour of the western region.

The visit was aimed at creating partnership and sharing ideas on the improvement of water use and sanitation.

The Amuria chief administrative officer, Chrisestom Kayize, said the focus was on how to achieve maximum water coverage by 2015 as set in the millennium development goals.

Amuria, Kayize said, was ranked 74th out of 82 districts in water production and sanitation, adding that they wanted ideas from districts that performed well.

“A toad does not jump during the day for nothing. Our performance in water and sanitation was poor and we decided to have this tour to learn from districts which performed better.”

The resident district commissioner, Max Omeda, said the plan was to ensure that every household in Amuria had water by 2011.

Kirihura LC5 chairman Philip Kamugungunu urged Amuria leaders to take advantage of non-governmental organisations to supplement government programmes.
