Police must protect female detainees

EDITOR—On Wednesday, it was reported in Bukedde that a Corporal John Orwotho took advantage of a detained woman Geradine Namale at Buwama Police station and had sex with her.
EDITOR—On Wednesday, it was reported in Bukedde that a Corporal John Orwotho took advantage of a detained woman Geradine Namale at Buwama Police station and had sex with her.
This is just one of the many instances which go unreported most of the time. I appeal to the concerned authorities, to investigate the extent to which the rights of women in detention in Uganda are abused.
In the first place, it is female officers at police stations who are supposed to be in charge of female detainees, so why is it that at Buwama this is not the case?
Women in detention are usually desperate and are therefore vulnerable.
