STRIKER Geoffrey Sserunkuuma has been recalled to the Cranes while Oscar Agaba and Jeremiah Sebuyiira look set to earn their first international caps after masterful league performances for SC Villa in the soccer Super League.

The two SC Villa central midfielders are expected to resolve Cranes’ midfield troubles brought about by the untimely exits of Tony Mawejje and Mike Aziira.
“We evidently struggled in Asmara in that department. Simeon (Masaba) failed to make the grade in midfield,” Cranes head coach Laszlo Csaba hinted yesterday.

Csaba, who described Agaba and Sebuyiira as promising after just their first session with the team at Namboole Stadium, feels the crop of midfielders assembled now will prove more than a match for the visiting Eritrean side.
“Their performances in the league have been there for all to see. I expect a lot more from them especially physically,” Csaba added.

Cranes’ midfield roster already includes Owen Kasule, Simon Sserunkuuma and Steven Bengo, who can also pivot behind the main striker.

Cranes, who managed a 2-2 draw with Eritrea in Asmara, need a draw of less than two goals and win of any margin to automatically secure a meeting with either Kenya or Tanzania at the next stage.

Deposed forwards Moses Aduni has also been re-included in the side though he clearly looked a yard slower going forward.

Aduni’s return to the side is surprising for a player who has played no more than 15 minutes since his controversial transfer from Express to SC Villa mid-season.

“The strikers available should help the team to a comfortable win,” Csaba insisted.

Big score-lines are not exactly Cranes staple diet but history proves that the task isn’t beyond the Cranes, with the record standing at a 13-1 defeat of Kenya in 1932. The highest result recently was a 5-0 hammering of Rwanda in 1998.
