Letter of the week: Baryamujura is a blessing

THANK you for your profile of Maria Baryamujura, director of Community Based Tourism Initiative (COBATI) published on Thursday. Mrs Baryamujura is an inspirational woman leader who has made a practical difference in the lives of the communities around her, including women.

I was especially impressed that COBATI provides transport for pregnant women in the community to go to the nearest health centre for safe delivery.

This shows that her project is also contributing to the Millennium Development Goals (MDG), particularly around reducing maternal mortality and halving the number of people living in poverty.

I wish her all the best and call for the government to live up to its MDG commitments by among other things, financing the tourism sector.
