Nakitanda sets new marks
NATIONAL swimming ace Aya Nakitanda set two new national records in two events not previously competed for locally at last week’s 9th FINA World Swimming Championships in Manchester, England. Although she did not reach the final, her times for the women’s 100m freestyle and 50m freestyle that she competed in for the first time, have been registered as records. The Makerere University student set a time of 29.71 seconds in the 50m freestyle. She then set 1 minute 08.23 seconds in 100m freestyle.
TOPA triumphs
Tororo Progressive Academy (TOPA) defended their district soccer title by beating Rubongi SS 4 - 0 in the final at Rubongi Barracks play ground last weekend.TOPA, semifinalist at last year’s national Coca-Cola championship where they were beaten by defending champion St. Mary's Kitende, got another shot at the title this year.
Meanwhile, Busia Trust beat Lumino 3 - 1 to also qualify for the national Coca Cola championships.
Blick is back
Retired motorsport driver Arthur Blick Senior has bounced back to sports as interim chairman of Uganda National Paralympics Committee (UNPC). UNPC is the Ugandan body in charge of disability sports. National Council of Sports on Friday named Blick alongside Nalima Mukiibi, George Byarugaba, Francis Kinabu and Rebecca Akwenyu to steer UNPC back to sanity after associations threw out John Ndiraba Kiyaga's executive.
