Just two days after the tragic fire incident in Budo, another group of pupils had a close brush with death on Thursday when a fire broke out in a dormitory at a city nursery and primary school.

The fire gutted the tiny room, part of a residential house turned into a school at about 4:00pm as Mercy Aciro, a Primary Four pupil, who reportedly had a candle, searched for her shoes.

During the search, the candle fell on some flammable material, starting the fire that consumed property of pupils at Grace Day Care and Primary School in Ntinda-Kigoowa.

“She suddenly called me and said that our property was on fire,” a sobbing Phiona Nalunkuma narrated.

A teacher, Robert Onyango, recounted: “We quickly ran to the room and put out the fire,” he said.

Luckily, there were no deaths or injuries in the incident.

According to Onyango, most pupils in the boarding section returned home after completing their examinations.

The incident occurred just a few hours to the end of first term. Pupils were receiving their end of term reports when Saturday Vision went to the school yesterday. The room where the fire broke out had been given a fresh coat of blue paint, but the impact of the fire was still evident.
