Oyo celebrates 16th birthday

PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has congratulated the Omukama of Toro Kingdom, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukiidi IV, upon celebrating his 16th birthday.

PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has congratulated the Omukama of Toro Kingdom, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukiidi IV, upon celebrating his 16th birthday.

Museveni acknowledged the cordial and amicable relationship between the Government and the kingdom.

“I have had the pleasure of seeing cultural institutions in Uganda restored. As you celebrate your 16th birthday, may we also acknowledge the growth of Toro as a kingdom,” Museveni said in a message delivered by the relief and disaster preparedness minister, Prof. Tarsis Kabwegyere.

The celebrations took place at the royal palace (Karuziika) in Fort Portal district on Saturday.

Museveni said the Government looked forward to good leadership with having an omukama.

A new cabinet of 36 ministers led by the prime minister, William Nyakatura, was also sworn in and Museveni congratulated the outgoing cabinet for the serving the kingdom.

He urged the new cabinet to serve the kingdom diligently. The ministers knelt down and kissed Oyo’s palm as a symbol of allegiance.

Ministers Adolf Mwesige, Aston Kajara and Burashya MP Stephen Kagwera attended. The western Police commander, Martin Abilu, and Kabarole resident district commissioner Atwooki Kambarage were also present.
