The decision to consult all stakeholders engaged in the fight against corruption was reached after state minister for ethics and integrity, Dr. James Nsaba Buturo, presented it to the committee on Wednesday. The Public hearings begin this month, the chairperson, Mary Okurut, said.
Buturo explained: “We have pooled together what was in the Penal Code and the Leadership Code and consolidated it under one law. We are giving more powers to the IGG and the DPP to deal with illicit enrichment.â€
The Bill was referred to the committee by the Speaker for scrutiny after the minister tabled it in March.
It deals with corruption in both the public and private sector and provides for confiscation of property acquired directly or indirectly, as a result of corruption.
