Kikwete visit ends

PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni and his Tanzanian counterpart Jakaya Kikwete discussed bilateral as well as regional and international issues at State House, Entebbe.

A statement issued on Thursday said Kikwete concluded his two-day visit after the discussions, details of which were not given. But there were reports that the leaders would discuss the upsurge of violence in Burundi.

The statement said during a state dinner, Museveni and Kikwete pledged their commitment to ensuring that their people achieve real development and economic transformation.

Kikwete who arrived in Uganda on Wednesday, was accompanied by his foreign affairs minister, Bernard Membe.

“Museveni hailed the strong, fraternal and amicable relations between Uganda and Tanzania which he said date back many years. He noted that the countries share a lot,” said the statement.

“The co-operation between our two countries which are undergoing development and transformation is based on a common desire to attain a better standard of living of our people,” he said. He also hailed Tanzania’s contribution to Uganda’s liberation struggle.

Kikwete hailed President Museveni for his efforts in building a vibrant economy for Uganda, from ashes.
