Cranes technical director Edgar Watson, who led Uganda’s advance team to Luanda, received the team from the airport yesterday evening and booked the contingent at the three-star Park Hotel. He said his choice was influenced by the massive traffic jams in Luanda which he wants the team to avoid.

“They will be staying at this fairly good hotel. It is near the stadium and out of the city. That is the best place we wanted them to be,” said Watson.

“We don't want to be delayed in traffic before the game,” he explained.
The players and coach Laszlo Csaba went to there rooms to have an early rest after a tiring 18-hour journey that started on Wednesday.

In Kampala, government added an extra sh14.5m from the earlier $41,250 (sh66m) they had advanced for the trip.

“The change of flight connections cost us that amount. The process is already on to pay the travel agent. We are praying that we come out victorious,” said sports state minister Charles Bakkabulindi yesterday.

Meanwhile, the BBC website yesterday confirmed with CAF the qualification procedure for the 2010 World Cup qualifiers. The New Vision early this week explained that Uganda will only be safe by topping their group.

Earlier reports that even a third team would advance have been ruled out.

“The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has detailed a complicated formula to determine which teams progress to the second qualifying group stage for the 2010 World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations,” BBC said. “But a fair amount of mathematics will be required to discover those best runners-up.”
