SC Villa yesterday received new kit for the 2008/9 Super League worth over sh15m from sponsors uganda telecom ahead of the season opener against KCC at Namboole on Saturday.

Uganda telecom corporate brand manager Charlotte Kemigyisha handed over the home and away jerseys to Villa president Franco Mugabe at Villa park.

The package is part of the sh100m sponsorship uganda telecom pledged to the club towards the end of last season.
“We are grateful to uganda telecom and we shall promote your interest, not only locally but also internationally,” Mugabe vowed.

Kemigyisha promised more support to the club from utl. “What we have done today is the beginning of a long time relationship. We believe it will be successful.”

The club will tomorrow unveil their new signings at a corporate dinner at Sheraton Hotel. Most of their new recruits have been promoted from their junior side Jogoo Young.

  • KCC, Horizon threaten Super League kickoff

  • The league kickoff is, however, in balance after champions KCC threatened not to honour their opening fixture with Villa. The club said unless FUFA and media rights owners GTV settled their outstanding financial obligations to them they are not ready to play the league opener on Saturday.

Club chairman Godfrey Kisekka made the threat at the KCC victory party at Lugogo on Sunday. He said it was unfortunate for FUFA to organise matches without consulting the concerned clubs.

“All super division clubs are unhappy with the arrangement and we don’t foresee the league opening before FUFA and GTV pay clubs the last quarter’s sponsorship money for the last season. Even the winners prize money has not been paid to the beneficiaries,” Kisekka charged.KCC is entitled to sh32m for winning the league and sh9m for the last quarter of the season.

In a related development Horizon FC has dragged FUFA to court. The case will be heard at the high court in Mbarara tomorrow.

A source in Kabale said that former FUFA vice president (administration) Godfrey Kwizera and club team manager Kalid Latif filed the case at the High Court last week.

Horizon has accused FUFA of ‘illegally’ dismissing their petition against western region Super League representatives Mbarara United who they want dismissed from the competition.
