KIREKA Chess Club shot to the top of the chess league after a convincing win over Aviation club 4-1 on Sunday. The win pushed the leaders to four points ahead of second-placed Mengo, albeit with a game in hand for Mengo.

KIREKA Chess Club shot to the top of the chess league after a convincing win over Aviation club 4-1 on Sunday. The win pushed the leaders to four points ahead of second-placed Mengo, albeit with a game in hand for Mengo.

In other games, last year’s runners up Mulago Kings edged Mulago Rooks 3-2 while Makerere University hammered visiting Mulago Knights 4-1.

In the Kireka - Aviation game, the former’s Michael Mawanda and Walter Okas defeated.

Aviation’s Raphael Buti and Alex Ruzigura while Emma Mwaka and Phiona Munombe got byes.

Aviation’s captain Vianney Luggya beat Kireka’s teenage sensation Kenneth Ouma to rescue a point.

The Uganda Chess Federation competition continues with various matches in Kampala this weekend.
