SEMBABULE district National Agriculture Advisory Services (NAADS) accounts assistant was arrested for allegedly forging signatures and withdrawing sh18m from dfcu bank, Masaka branch.

The district CID chief, Adile Cassias, said Vincent Abomugisha and five others, most of them teachers, forged the signatures of the chief administrative officer, the finance officer and the district NAADS coordinator and deposited the money on Bugerere Youth Association’s account.

Abomugisha’s arrest followed a phone call made by dfcu’s manager to the Chief Administrative Officer, Jonathan Mukose, to confirm his knowledge of the transaction.

It was alleged that the cheque used to withdraw the money from the bank had been stolen from the cheque book long before the incident took place.

Adile said other officials from NAADS were under investigation and those found to be involved, would be arrested.
